The United Poodle Breeds Association exists to promote the "total poodle". We strive to advance the best interests and welfare of purebred Poodles and Standard Poodles and to bring their natural qualities to perfection through versatility in performance and careful breeding. UPBA is not in competition with any other dog organization, nor does the Association seek to duplicate the efforts of other organizations.

CHANGE in Official UKC Poodle Breed Standard!

UKC has announced a change in the Breed Standards for Standard Poodles and for Companion Poodles (Miniatures and Toys). This will be official May 1, 2008.

CHARACTERISTICS

The Poodle's most readily identifiable characteristic is its harsh, dense coat, which is presented in various traditional trims or, less frequently, corded. Another essential characteristic is proper temperament. The breed is noted for its high intelligence, trainability and sense of humor. Poodles are highly social and require human companionship and regular, close interaction with family members. Because of their great intelligence and the joy they take in human companionship, Poodles excel in performance events of all sorts. They are extremely affectionate with children.

This change was the result of the work of the UPBA Board, and member Grace Blair. We were particularly concerned that the previous wording of this part of the standards did not properly reflect the temperament of poodles. This is the poodle temperament that we are looking for in breeding programs! We thank MCPCA for their support in achieving this change in the Breed Standards.
